About me
The very nature of counselling can feel both daunting and scary. I understand that it takes time to build a trusting relationship that allows us to be vulnerable and feel comfortable to explore our thoughts and feelings with one another.
I have been described as a warm, non-judgmental counsellor who can provide a safe and confidential space to talk about the things that may be troubling you. I am trained in Person-Centered Counselling, which is a humanistic approach that relies on a non-judgmental, empathic relationship that is real and genuine. I therefore in my practice will work to build a therapeutic relationship with you that allows you to feel safety in sharing your feelings and issues with someone who will listen without judgement. I however understand that not every shoe fits all and will therefore adapt my approach so to fit your needs. It is because of this that I describe myself as an integrative counsellor with a Person-Centred foundation. As an Integrative therapist, I will draw upon different interventions in the best interest of you, the client. This may include, talk therapy, using art, role play, mindfulness techniques or anything else that may provide the way in to talk about your issues or problems.
I come from a creative background and if it feels right for you, will offer or suggest creative alternatives to explore how you feel or what is going on for you. Examples of this type of work range from; working with paints, drawings, sand trays, picture cards, working with dolls, pebbles, creative writing or any other medium that provides a creative way to explore the issue at hand. In line with the Person-Centered modality, this is entirely led by you and if creativity is not your preferred way of working then that is okay. For some, the very notion of talking in therapy can feel too much or sometimes there may not be the words to describe what is going on for you, of which creative counselling can provide us with the key to unlock the door. Creative interventions for example can help us to become aware of different feelings, sensations, images and relationships.
I offer short to long term therapy either in person, online or via telephone. Face-to-Face sessions are held within Huddersfield Town Centre.
I understand that it can be really overwhelming choosing a therapist and taking the first step to seek out support. If you feel my way of working is the right fit for you, or if you have any further questions or queries, then please feel welcome to get in touch.
