About me
Mr Matyas Fehervari is a consultant upper gastrointestinal, bariatric and robotic surgeon with particular expertise in treating complex obesity, reflux and hernia conditions. He provides minimally invasive and robotic procedures, as well as advanced endoscopy, for acid reflux, obesity, gallstones and hernias. His care is tailored to each patient's individual health needs and long-term goals, with a clear focus on safe, modern treatment.
He regularly cares for patients whose cases may be more complicated due to previous surgery, medical conditions or challenging anatomy, including revisional bariatric surgery and advanced hiatal or abdominal wall hernias. His approach is calm, clear and patient-focused, with an emphasis on detailed assessment, safe planning and genuine shared decision-making.
Mr Fehervari works full time at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust and trained through the Imperial College London academic programme, followed by specialist fellowship training in bariatric and anti-reflux surgery. He has also undertaken international travel fellowships at the Mayo Clinic (USA) and the University of Strasbourg (France), with specific experience in robotic surgery and advanced endoscopy for upper gastrointestinal and general procedures. He is the Endoscopy Training Hub Lead for Kent and Medway and is involved in developing advanced endoscopic training across the region.
He holds a PhD in Clinical Surgery and two Master's degrees, and is an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at Imperial College London. He has authored over 100 publications in international surgical journals and remains active in research and surgical education, with a particular focus on minimally invasive, bariatric, robotic and endoscopic surgery.
Outside work, he enjoys cycling, running, fishing and spending time with his family.
