About me
Mr Matyas Fehervari is a Consultant Robotic Gallbladder, Reflux, Hernia and Bariatric Surgeon practising in London and the South East.
He specialises in the assessment and treatment of gallstones, gallbladder disease, bile duct stones, acid reflux, hiatus hernia, abdominal wall hernias and obesity. His practice focuses on minimally invasive, robotic and endoscopic techniques, helping patients recover more quickly and return to normal activities sooner.
A significant part of Mr Fehervari's practice is dedicated to gallbladder and bile duct disease. He treats patients with recurrent gallstone attacks, cholecystitis, gallstone pancreatitis and bile duct stones, and has a particular interest in complex gallbladder surgery. In addition to standard laparoscopic gallbladder removal, he performs robotic gallbladder surgery and laparoscopic and robotic bile duct exploration, allowing suitable patients to undergo treatment of gallstones and bile duct stones in a single operation.
Mr Fehervari also has extensive experience in the investigation and treatment of gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD) and hiatus hernia. He offers comprehensive reflux assessment, including gastroscopy, Bravo (wireless) pH monitoring. Surgical treatments include laparoscopic and robotic hiatus hernia repair, fundoplication and LINX surgery. He regularly manages both primary and recurrent hiatus hernias, including complex revisional cases, often using a robotic approach that provides enhanced precision, may reduce postoperative pain, and can facilitate surgery in technically challenging cases.
In addition, Mr Fehervari provides specialist robotic and conventional treatment for abdominal wall and groin hernias, including inguinal, femoral, umbilical, epigastric, incisional and ventral hernias. He has a particular interest in minimally invasive and robotic hernia surgery and routinely performs laparoscopic and robotic hernia repairs for both primary and recurrent hernias.
Alongside his gallbladder, reflux and hernia practice, Mr Fehervari specialises in weight loss surgery and endoscopic weight management. His practice includes gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy, revisional bariatric surgery and Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty (ESG/EndoSleeve).
Mr Fehervari completed his higher surgical training in London before undertaking advanced fellowship training in upper gastrointestinal, bariatric and anti-reflux surgery. He was awarded international travel fellowships to the Mayo Clinic in the United States and the University Hospital of Strasbourg (IRCAD) in France, where he gained additional experience in advanced minimally invasive, robotic and endoscopic surgery.
He holds a PhD in Clinical Surgery, a Master's degree in Surgical Innovation from Imperial College London and a second Master's degree in Surgical Endoscopy from the University of Strasbourg.
Mr Fehervari is an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at Imperial College London, a Clinical Lecturer at Kent and Medway Medical School, and Head of the Kent and Medway Endoscopy Training Hub. He has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters and is regularly invited to teach and lecture nationally and internationally.
He is a member of the British Obesity and Metabolic Surgery Society (BOMSS), the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders (IFSO), the European Association for Endoscopic Surgery (EAES) and the Association of Laparoscopic Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland (ALSGBI). He serves on the BOMSS National Bariatric Surgery Registry Committee and remains actively involved in surgical education, research and training.
