About me

Dr Richard Jones is a Consultant Cardiologist and Cardiac Imaging Lead at Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust. He delivers expert, patient-centred care across both NHS and private practice settings.

In his NHS role, Dr Jones is based at Broomfield Hospital, Basildon Hospital and the Essex Cardiothoracic Centre, where he manages a wide range of cardiovascular conditions. He has particular expertise in evaluating patients with chest pain, palpitations and breathlessness, providing clear diagnoses and tailored treatment plans.

Dr Jones specialises in advanced cardiac imaging. He is accredited by the British Society of Echocardiography in both transthoracic and transoesophageal echocardiography, and holds Level 3 accreditation in cardiovascular magnetic resonance from the European Society of Cardiovascular Imaging.

He completed his PhD at the National Heart and Lung Institute, Imperial College London, where his research focused on mitochondrial function in ischaemic heart disease and the prediction of sudden cardiac death. His work was recognised with a Young Investigator Award at the 2021 European Society of Cardiology Congress. He remains actively involved in research as Chief Investigator of the Essex Heart Registry.
