About me

I am a Clinical Psychologist and specialise in working with parents of children with mental health / behaviour difficulties. This includes parents of older children who are struggling and may or may not be accessing their own support.

I work with parents whose children are experiencing a range of mental health and behaviour difficulties. This includes addiction; anxiety; low mood; suicidality; OCD; eating disorders; those who are withdrawn, not talking, and who do not leave their rooms; and those who struggle with anger and aggression.

I use Emotion Focused Family Therapy (EFFT), which has been specifically designed for parents of children with mental health difficulties. I will help you to make sense of your child's difficulties and the way parenting is leaving you feeling. I will also help you to use therapeutic parenting skills which will help you to support your child. EFFT has been adapted based on feedback from parents, so parents find it really relatable.

Although EFFT is the main model I use, because I am a Clinical Psychologist, I can also use other therapies like Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and Compassion Focused approaches. This means that I can be flexible depending on what you need, and if your child is also accessing support, I can ensure our work compliments theirs.

I am so proud of the work I do. The feedback I get from the parents shows how supported they feel by the work we do together, and the difference it makes to their children: As a parent of a child with mental health struggles, I learnt so much in terms of how to approach my child in a way that would help them feel listened to and validated. Victoria's personal, relatable style was great. It has helped me understand how to react to some difficult and stressful situations and understand my child's perspective.

I have been a Clinical Psychologist for 14 years, working in specialist NHS and Paediatric settings, and as a consultant and trainer in Social Care Family Services. This experience, alongside all the training and reading I do, means I have a wealth of knowledge and experience. So, even if your family is complicated, it is likely that together we can make sense of what is going on and help you to make changes.
