About me

Dr. Ravi Ramessur is a Consultant Clinical-Academic Dermatologist dedicated to providing comprehensive, holistic care while ensuring his patients have access to the most advanced and effective treatments. He balances his private practice with his continued role as an NHS consultant, offering his expertise across both settings.

He completed his medical training at the University of Cambridge and the University of Oxford before undertaking specialist dermatology training in London and Cambridge. Following his dermatology training, he pursued a PhD at the St John's Institute of Dermatology in London, focusing on the impact of lifestyle factors and genetics on psoriasis and its related health issues.

Dr. Ramessur's clinical and research work has earned him numerous national and international awards. He has published over 20 peer-reviewed articles, including contributions to high-impact journals such as The Lancet, JAMA Cardiology, and the British Journal of Dermatology. He is frequently invited to present his findings at major international conferences. Since 2023, he has presented at research conferences in Amsterdam, Brussels, Dubai, Freiberg, Glasgow, Liverpool, London, Madrid, New Orleans, Oslo, Paris, San Diego, Singapore, Southampton, Tokyo, and Trondheim.

Beyond clinical practice, Dr. Ramessur is committed to advancing dermatology and healthcare more broadly through active roles in several key national organisations, including:

-National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) Technology Appraisal committee:
Ensuring new medical treatments are effective and cost-efficient for NHS use.

- British Association of Dermatologists (BAD) Therapeutics and Guidelines Subcommittee:
Developing evidence-based recommendations for treating skin conditions to ensure safe and effective patient care.

- BAD Artificial Intelligence Working Party:
Exploring the potential of artificial intelligence to enhance the diagnosis and treatment of skin conditions.

- BAD Audit Subcommittee:
Overseeing quality improvement initiatives to ensure high standards of dermatology care across the UK.

Areas of interest

Dr Ramessur has a specialist interest in inflammatory skin conditions, including psoriasis, eczema, acne, and rosacea. He has completed a PhD and is currently undertaking an International Psoriasis Council Fellowship in 2025 to help advance innovation and improve treatments for chronic inflammatory skin diseases. He also has extensive experience in diagnosing and managing warts, cysts, mole checks, vitiligo, rosacea, and skin cancer, consulting with both children and adults.
