About me
I am a clinical and community psychologist, qualifying in 1992 from University of Exeter and have worked in the NHS in different parts of Devon since then until recently. Most of my work has been with adults, though sometimes with their families where young people have been involved too. I have worked with adults from 18 to 80 while working in the Adult Mental Health Services in Devon. I spent two years or so working specifically with people experiencing physical and sensory disability, managing challenging illnesses and this is an interest that I have maintained in my subsequent clinical and supervisory roles in Adult Mental Health and providing supervision in other services.
Over the last five to ten years, I have worked with a growing number of people with diagnosed and/or self-identified neurodivergence and have pursued experience, training and supervision to be able to support neurodivergent clients through therapy and other interventions. I have also supported clients through their period of exploring potential neurodivergence and the decision whether or not to pursue assessment for formal diagnosis. I do not carry out these assessments myself currently.
After qualifying as a Clinical and Community Psychologist and over my working life I have undertaken a number of trainings of different lengths. As a Psychologist I can integrate these different approaches or offer them separately to help you. I often offer Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT) or EMDR as stand-alone therapies or jointly. I also offer integrative therapies incorporating these models alongside with techniques from other approaches such as Compassion Focussed Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Systemic Practice and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.
I have also learned a lot, personally and professionally, through my own experience of therapy (so I do know what it is like to come for therapy) and Mindfulness Practice. These have included Art Therapy, Psychoanalysis, CAT, Systemic Family Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and MBCT.
