About me
Mr Bloch is a Consultant Eye Surgeon specialising in cataract surgery and the treatment of vitreoretinal conditions, including macular holes, epiretinal membranes and retinal detachments.
After graduating from Oxford University in 2009 and University College London Medical School with distinction in 2012, Mr Bloch completed his ophthalmic training in London. His training included a three-year clinical fellowship at the renowned Moorfields Eye Hospital and Institute of Ophthalmology, funded through the Wellcome/EPSRC Centre for Interventional and Surgical Sciences. During this time, he was awarded a Doctorate in Medicine in Disorders of the Vitreoretina in 2023.
To further refine his expertise, Mr Bloch undertook advanced fellowships in both medical and surgical retina at St Thomas' Hospital, London, and Bristol Eye Hospital. He is highly skilled in managing a wide range of conditions, from routine macular hole and epiretinal membrane surgery to complex, high-risk cataract procedures and vision-saving retinal detachment repairs. He utilises the latest technology to ensure the highest standard of care.
Mr Bloch is an active contributor to ophthalmic research and has published over 30 peer-reviewed papers on topics ranging from cellular genetics to advanced robotics and artificial intelligence. He frequently presents at international conferences and has received multiple awards for his work.
Since 2024, Mr Bloch has served as an NHS Consultant at East Kent Hospitals University Foundation Trust, where he is actively involved in training, audit, and service development. He is a Fellow of both the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and the European Board of Ophthalmologists and a member of the British & Eire Association of Vitreoretinal Surgeons and the European Society of Retinal Specialists.
Dedicated to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care, Mr Bloch takes the time to address any concerns surrounding eye surgery, clearly explaining all available management options. By fostering strong patient relationships, he aims to reduce anxiety and build confidence in decision-making.
Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his family, cycling, playing cricket and skiing.
