About me
I Qualified in 1984. Trained in Manchester, Liverpool and London. I was then appointed as Consultant and Senior Lecturer in Upper GI Surgery at London, Barts and Homerton hospitals in 1998.
I Moved to Broomfield Hospital as Consultant Upper GI surgeon in 2003 as a experienced laparoscopic (keyhole) and robotic surgeon.
I was the first surgeon to perform the insertion of Gastric electrical stimulator for patients with diabetic and idiopathic gastroparesis in Europe. I first performed this procedure in 2000 and I have established this service at Broomfield hospital since 2003. Broomfield Hospital is now a National centre offering this service throughout the UK. Last year, the largest number of gastric pacing operations in Europe were performed at Broomfield Hospital.
I was part of the team that invented the Endoscopic capsule, that allows visualisation of the entire small bowel. With the help of the Charity Commission I was able to raise £100,000 to set up the service. Broomfield Hospital is now set up as a regional centre for capsule endoscopy services.
I also set up the oesophageal motility laboratory at Broomfield Hospital. This has now developed into a regional investigative centre for patients in Essex.
I am currently researching the mapping of brain signals in patients with gastroparesis.
