About me
Dr Colin Goudie is a Consultant Ophthalmologist, specialising in cataract and vitreoretinal surgery. He performs routine and complex cataract surgery and offers treatment with topical (no needle), local or general anaesthetic using monofocal, enhanced monofocal, extended depth of focus and toric intraocular lenses.
As a vitreoretinal surgeon he is referred patients from colleagues for the management of post-operative complications. Vitreoretinal surgical procedures offered include treatment of macular holes, epiretinal membranes, floaters and retinal detachments as well as secondary and complicated intraocular lens implants.
Having grown up in Dundee, Dr Goudie graduated from the University of Edinburgh before completing ophthalmic specialist training at the Princess Alexandra Eye Pavilion in Edinburgh and Queen Margaret Hospital in Dunfermline. He has completed 2 years of intensive training in Vitreoretinal Surgery, one in Edinburgh and a second in Auckland, New Zealand. On return from New Zealand he was appointed as a Consultant at both the Princess Alexandra Eye Pavilion and the Borders General Hospital where he is a specialist in cataract and vitreoretinal surgery.
He is currently the Clinical Lead for the Ophthalmic Acute Referral Clinic in Edinburgh and plays an active role in postgraduate education. Outside of work he has a busy family life and loves all sport. He was a successful rugby player, playing for Heriot's Rugby Club, Scotland at all youth levels, Scotland 7s and the Barbarians.
