About me
Mr Prad Murthy MBBS, FRCSEd, FRCS (ORL), is a Consultant Otolaryngologist and Head and Neck Surgeon whose NHS practice is based at Northern Care Alliance NHS Trust and Christies NHS Foundation Trust. His private practice is carried out at Circle Alexandra Hospital and Spire Manchester Hospital. He specialises in adult and paediatric otolaryngology and has special expertise and interest in oncological surgery, thyroid and salivary gland surgery, paediatric ENT and endoscopic sinus surgery. In July 2024, Mr Murthy has achieved the landmark of 25 years of experience as a Consultant in the specialty.
Mr Murthy has undergone extensive post-graduate training at prestigious medical institutions in the United Kingdom and United States of America. His professional journey began with basic surgical training in Otolaryngology and General Surgery at various teaching hospitals in London. During this period he was successful in obtaining his primary FRCS from the Royal College of Surgeons of Glasgow and specialist FRCS in Otolaryngology from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. He then pursued further surgical training in ENT in East Anglia for a period of two years, where he gained extensive ENT experience in Otology and Rhinology. He then undertook further training for a period of five years in advanced head and neck surgery, including free flaps and microvascular reconstruction in the north of Scotland. During his final year of training, Mr Murthy was successful in obtaining the Final specialist Fellowship in Otolaryngology awarded by the Royal College of Surgeons.
Mr Murthy then undertook a clinical Fellowship in Head and Neck cancer and reconstructive surgery at the University of Miami, Florida for a year. During this time, he developed further advanced skills in the outpatient and surgical management of head and neck cancers and benign neck lumps. Since becoming a consultant in 1999, Mr Murthy has continued to develop his expertise in all areas of paediatric and adult otolaryngology. He actively contributes to audit, research and teaching of undergraduates, postgraduates, nursing staff, allied health professionals and general practitioners. He is a respected speaker at national conferences and courses for otolaryngologists and general practitioners, and is the author of 25 peer-reviewed articles. One of his notable contributions has been featured in TIME magazine and in a medical documentary on the Discovery Health Channel, highlighting his involvement in complex surgical treatments, including serious injuries caused by explosions during the Kosovo War.
During the last 25 years as a Consultant, Mr Murthy has received numerous accolades and excellent feedback for his professionalism and expertise from his Consultant colleagues, trainees, general practitioners, nursing staff, administrative staff and patients. He continues to strive to improve his clinical knowledge and surgical experience and regularly attends national and international courses and conferences as part of his Continuing Professional Development.
