About me
Dr Martin is the Senior Consultant Gynaecology Oncologist at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh and one of the most senior gynaecological surgeons in Scotland. He trained as a subspecialist surgeon following his award of higher postgraduate MD in Medicine and was appointed to Consultant at just 34 years old.
Dr Martin is the Regional Lead Clinician for the whole South East Scotland Cancer Network with responsibility for all Cancer Groups , including the Gynaecological Cancer Unit.
Dr Martins main area of expertise is laparoscopic (kehole) surgery and was a pioneer in Scotland in the early 2000s in introducing new techniques including hysterectomy and radical endometriosis resection. This work lead to the joint development of Edinburgh as a recognised Endometriosis Unit and as well as oncology work, Dr Martin performs complex procedures in patients with advanced endometriosis and other benign conditions.
Dr Martins was recently appointed to oversee the development of national gynaecology oncology pathways and co chair the national cancer quality improvement board. Dr Martin has a prolific surgical profile spanning over more than 20 years as a consultant in NHS and private medicine with a keen focus on detail, communication and surgical safety with low complication rates.
