About me
Richard was appointed as a Consultant Urologist in 2004 at North Hampshire Hospital and is now Urology Clinical lead. He is also an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Southampton.
Richard specialises in diagnosis of Prostate Cancer and has been using the mpMRI diagnostic pathway for a number of years. He is also an advocate of Focal therapy for prostate cancer where appropriate and has been involved in helping educate surgeons around the world in this treatment.
Richard has been heavily involved in the development of minimally invasive procedures to treat BPH in men and is able to guide patients to choose the best treatment to suit their condition and lifestyle. As well as Greenlight Laser and Urolift, Richard is the first surgeon in the UK to offer the Rezum treatment, an exciting new treatment for BPH which can be done as a day case in hospital.
In 2018, Richard Hindley was honoured with a Professorship from the University of Winchester for Knowledge Exchange in the Health and Wellbeing Research Group.
He has recently been appointed as Chair of the GIRFT Academy for bladder outlet obstruction, which has been set up to improve the quality of care for men with symptomatic BPH and reduce regional variations in practice.
