About me

I have been a consultant hand and wrist surgeon in Buckinghamshire since 2003. I studied at Oxford Medical School under Professor John Stein, worked as a junior doctor in London teaching hospitals and then trained in orthopaedic surgery in the Oxford deanery. Following fellowships at St Vincent's Hospital in Melbourne, and then in Oxford, and a period of time working as a consultant in the Derby Hand Unit I was appointed consultant at Wycombe Hospital. Two years later this merged with Stoke Mandeville Hospital. I am passionate about the human hand, and about teaching and cultivating future generations of doctors.

I have extensive experience in my NHS practice of dealing with complex and mutilating trauma of the hand and wrist, and in reconstructing hands send in from other units. I treat large numbers of patients with wrist fractures, particularly of the distal radius and scaphoid, as well as those with wrist ligament injuries requiring arthroscopic surgery.

I look after a large local population of patients with rheumatoid arthritis and neuromuscular disorders (including nerve palsies, Parkinsons, stroke and patients with unexplained symptoms). I have a particular subspecialty interest in treating musicians with hand and wrist disorders.

A large amount of my operative practice is with carpal tunnel and Dupuytrens surgery. For the latter the majority of my patients are treated with needle fasciotomy who generally recover excellent function within a few days.

Other commonly treated conditions include arthritis of the fingers and thumb, tendonitis and triggering, and soft tissue lumps around the hand.

I work with an exceptional group of supporting consultants in radiology (scans and imaging), neurophysiology (nerve testing) and regional anaesthesia (for awake surgery when appropriate).
