About me
I am a Consultant General and Upper GI surgeon at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, where I am clinical lead for the Surgical Emergency Unit. My higher surgical training was in the East of England and I completed a fellowship in oesophago-gastric surgery at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge. I hold a PhD from the Institute of Metabolic Science at the University of Cambridge, where I led studies examining the effect of stomach and oesophageal surgery on eating, sugar control and quality of life.
I studied medicine at Emmanuel College, Cambridge, and Merton College, Oxford, graduating BMBCh with distinction from the University of Oxford in 2007. After completing my core training at Cambridge University I volunteered as a surgeon at St Francis' Hospital, Katete, Zambia. Living and working in a different culture and healthcare system gave me a balanced perspective on life and medicine which influences me to this day.
