After medical training at St Andrews and Manchester Universities, Mr Hockings completed specialist training in Orthopaedics and Trauma in Manchester. Following this he spent 12 months in Toronto specialising in Knee and Hip surgery from 2002 to 2003. He was appointed Consultant Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon Torbay Hospital in 2003. Mr Hockings works full time at Torbay Hospital and has an annual appraisal. Mr Hockings was head of the Department of Orthopaedics as Clinical Director from 2013 to 2016.

At Torbay Hospital Mr Hockings is actively involved in teaching and training of junior surgeons and has been an examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons in the UK since 2009, ensuring high standards for trainee surgeons. Mr Hockings was voted Trainer of the Year in the South West in 2013 by the registrar trainees.
Academically, Mr Hockings keeps up to date by attending National Conferences in Knee surgery and the British Orthopaedic Association, of which he is a Fellow. He is also a member of BASK (British Association of Surgery to the Knee) and has publication in the Knee Journal and in the Bone and Joint Journal (British Orthopaedic Association Journal).
Privately, I work at Mount Stuart Hospital in Torquay. Consulting and operating on patients with Knee and Hip problems.
