Prof Michael Douek is an oncoplastic breast surgeon with an interest in breast cancer surgery and breast reconstruction. He is an international leader in breast cancer surgery providing the full range of expertise in breast surgery including second opinions. His research interest is in developing and evaluating novel techniques for cancer surgery. Besides a novel magnetic technique for sentinel node biopsy and lesion localization that he developed, he is one of the pioneers of intra-operative radiotherapy for breast cancer and setup the first prospective trial of a biological device for breast implant reconstruction (POBRAD Trial of acellular dermal matrix for implant breast reconstruction). He is currently Chief Investigator of a number of international clinical trials.

In 2015, he was awarded a prestigious Hunterian Professorship by the Royal College of Surgeons of England.

He is the Meetings Secretary and Member of Council of the British Association of Surgical Oncology (BASO/ACS), the British Breast Group (BBG) and Breast Surgery International (BSI). He is also an examiner for the European Board of Surgery examinations in breast surgery and surgical oncology.
