About me
Mr Paul MacKenzie is a Consultant Upper Gastrointestinal and General Surgeon at Worthing Hospital, Southlands Hospital (University Hospitals Sussex) and at Goring Hall Hospital. Mr MacKenzie sees patients from Worthing, Pulborough, Bognor Regis, Chichester, Horsham and further afield throughout Sussex.
He has sub-specialist interest in the management of gallstone disease, acute and complex gallbladder pathology, gastro-oesophageal reflux disease and complex abdominal wall hernias.
Mr MacKenzie can offer keyhole gallbladder removal surgery (Laparoscopic cholecystectomy), keyhole anti-reflux surgery and both keyhole and open surgery for all forms of common hernia including inguinal hernia, femoral hernia, umbilical and para-umbilical hernia, epigastric and incisional hernia. In addition, Mr MacKenzie offers minor surgery for common skin and soft tissue problems such as cysts, abscesses and lipomas.
As a JAG certified Upper Gastrointestinal endoscopist Mr MacKenzie can provide investigation and management for swallowing difficulties, acid reflux and heart burn, peptic ulcer disease as well as provide surveillance endoscopies.
Mr MacKenzie grew-up in Salisbury, Wiltshire and was educated at St Georges Hospital Medical School, London and at the Peninsula Medical School (Universities of Exeter and Plymouth) graduating in 2010.
After undertaking rotations at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital, Mr Mackenzie was appointed to the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Higher Surgical Training Programme in 2014.
Mr MacKenzie trained in Upper GI Surgery at the Royal Surrey County Hospital, Guildford and St Richards Hospital, Chichester and he spent three years undertaking a research fellowship at the Minimal Access Therapy Training Unit (MATTU) Guildford, becoming a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in 2022.
Mr MacKenzie's research interests are in perioperative care and improving outcomes from surgery and he has published in several journals and written a book chapter in the field. He has taught for the Royal College of Surgeons, currently sits on national selection panels for surgical trainees and is an examiner at Brighton and Sussex Medical School.
Professional affiliations include Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, Member of the Association of Upper GI Surgeons (AUGIS), Member of the British Benign Upper GI Surgical Society.
