About me

Ms Sonia Kumar is a highly experienced Consultant Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) Surgeon with specialist expertise in otology (ear disorders), hearing restoration and paediatric ENT, treating both adults and children across Oxford and Buckinghamshire.

She graduated from the University of Oxford Medical School and completed her core surgical training in the West Midlands, followed by higher surgical training in Oxford.

She further advanced her expertise through two highly prestigious fellowships: the Oxford Otology Fellowship and the International Paediatric Otology and Airway Fellowship at Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Ms Kumar is a key member of the Auditory Implant Team at Oxford University Hospitals, specialising in all aspects of ear surgery and hearing restoration, including cochlear implants, bone-anchored hearing devices, chronic ear disease, cholesteatoma surgery, otosclerosis, hearing reconstruction, and complex otology. She also works within the paediatric ENT team, delivering specialist care for children with all ENT conditions including hearing and breathing difficulties .

In Buckinghamshire, she works as a Consultant ENT Surgeon at Stoke Mandeville Hospital and Wycombe Hospital, specialising in otology and paediatric ENT surgery for patients across the region.

In addition to her clinical practice, Ms Kumar holds several senior national and academic leadership roles. She is a Council Member of the British Society of Otology (BSO) and serves as Lead for Clinical Governance and Audit within the Oxford University ENT Department, helping to maintain the highest standards of patient safety, quality improvement and clinical excellence. She is member of ENT UK Council as well as a active regional specialty advisor for The Royal College of Surgeons of England.

She is also actively involved in surgical education and training as an Educational Supervisor for junior doctors and higher surgical trainees, playing an important role in the Oxford ENT Surgical Training Programme and helping train the next generation of ENT surgeons

Ms Kumar is also a member of the British society of Otology (BSO), British Cochlear Implant Group (BCIG), British Paediatric Association of Paediatric Otorhinolaryngolists (BAPO) and European Association of Paedaitric Otorhinolaryngolists (ESPO)

Ear symptoms of hearing loss, glue ear, infections and discharge, ear drum perforations, tinnitus and dizziness and all forms of ear surgery including grommet surgery, closing holes in ear drums, cholesteatoma surgery, otosclerosis, hearing reconstruction and restoration and implantable hearing devices.

Paediatric ENT: full range of paediatric ENT conditions including glue ear, snoring and obstructive sleep apnoea, nasal conditions, tonsillitis and the management of neck lumps

Throat : sore throat, lumps in the throat, hoarseness, tonsillitis, neck lumps problems with the voice box

Nasal symptoms including nasal blockage and congestion, sinusitis and nasal allergy
