About me
Dr Malcolm Farquharson is a Consultant Gynaecologist based at Glasgow Royal Infirmary, with a special interest in Gynaecological Oncology and laparoscopic/robotic surgery.
Dr Farquharson studied at Glasgow University, graduating in 2008. He completed his specialist training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in the West of Scotland in 2022, and at the same time obtained his sub-specialist accreditation in Gynaecological Oncology.
During his training he spent 3 years at the Wolfson Wohl Cancer Research Centre in Glasgow undertaking clinical and laboratory-based research to better understand chemotherapy resistance in ovarian cancer. He was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Cancer Sciences, and he is actively involved in clinical research, and has published extensively in scientific and medical journals.
His main interest is in open and key-hole surgery (laparoscopic and robotic) for both benign and malignant disease which includes ovarian cystectomies, treatment of endometriosis and total hysterectomy. As a gynaecological oncologist, with higher specialist surgical training, he operates on the most difficult surgical cancer cases which means he is well placed to perform surgery for complex benign disease.
Within his NHS practice, he was one of the first gynaecologists in the West of Scotland to perform robotic surgery.
Dr Farquharson is a trained Colposcopist and a registered member of the British Society of Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology (BSCCP). He undertakes cervical screening and colposcopic treatment for pre-cancerous cervical changes.
