About me

I graduated from the University of Edinburgh in 2005 with MBChB and BSc (Hons) Psychology degrees. My subsequent paediatric training was mainly in South East Scotland but did include some time in the North East of England. I took some time out of training to undertake research into gene therapy for Cystic Fibrosis, which resulted in the award of a postgraduate MD degree.

During my training I completed formal Special Interest (SPIN) training in Paediatric Respiratory Medicine and Paediatric High Dependency Care. I was appointed as a Paediatric Consultant at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh in 2017. Our team have subsequently set up a new High Dependency Unit (HDU) for children, including a Critical Care Outreach team to facilitate the interface between patients on the ward and the Paediatric Critical Care Unit (PCCU). I am currently the Clinical Lead for Paediatric HDU and Outreach at the new Royal Hospital for Children and Young People.

As well as working in PCCU, I am also part of the respiratory team looking after children with a range of respiratory conditions including asthma, cystic fibrosis, complex respiratory disease and long term ventilation, in both inpatient and outpatient settings. I also perform flexible bronchoscopies.

I am passionate about patient safety, and I am the Clinical Governance Lead for PCCU. I enjoy training medical students and trainee paediatricians so I am active in training and assessments at the University of Edinburgh Medical School and the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health.

I will be happy to see children of all ages for general paediatric or respiratory clinic reviews.
