About me
Mr Jaffer is a fellowship-trained robotic surgeon with expertise in urological cancers involving the prostate, kidney, bladder and testes. He holds a further subspecialist interest in treating men with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and is one of a few urologists in the north of England to perform laser prostate surgery (HoLEP). He performs HoLEP using the 'En-bloc technique with early apical release' which has been shown to have superior continence outcomes.
In addition to his sub-specialist practice, Mr Jaffer has broad expertise of managing general urological conditions including urinary tract infections (UTI), kidney stones, testicular lumps and testicular pain, blood in the urine (haematuria) or semen (haematospermia), incontinence and erectile dysfunction.
Mr Jaffer currently works as a consultant urologist at Stepping Hill Hospital and holds clinics at Macclesfield, Tameside and Leighton Hospitals. He also serves as an honorary consultant at Guy's and St Thomas' hospital as well as Hull University Teaching Hospital
Mr Jaffer completed his surgical and urological training in Yorkshire during which time he was awarded 1st prize by the Royal College of Surgeons for demonstrating exemplary surgical skills amongst his cohort of trainees in the UK. Upon completing his urological training, he was accepted into the highly coveted robotic fellowship at the internationally renowned Guy's and St Thomas' hospital in London, the first Vattikuti Foundation accredited Robotic Surgery Institute in the UK. During his fellowship he became one of the first surgeons in Europe to carry out a robotic prostatectomy using both the traditional Da Vinci robot and Medtronic's HUGO platform. He is a keen innovator in the field and is able to perform a robotic prostatectomy using an anterior hood technique for eligable patients which has shown superior outcomes in terms of early continence recovery.
Mr Jaffer has a keen research interest in surgical innovation and has collaborated with engineering departments at the university of Leeds as well as King's College London to develop new devices for minimally invasive surgery. He completed a mini-MBA at King's College London in the field of surgical innovation and leadership to further cement his expertise in this area.
