Consultant Maxillofacial Surgeon
Chris Avery has been a Consultant Maxillofacial Surgeon at the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust since 2000. Studied dentistry at Bristol (1984) and read Medicine at Cambridge (1992) gaining many prizes. Awarded the Gold Medal for the FDSRCS (England) examination. Research qualifications include Master of Surgery (MChir) Cambridge in 2006 and Doctor of Medicine (MD) Leicester for research on reducing the morbidity associated with major head and neck cancer and reconstructive surgery.
Head of the Leicester Maxillofacial Research Group and Academic Champion, a member of the British Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons Researchers Group. Active in supporting staff interested in undertaking Audit & Research. Previously held positions in Leicester as Honorary Associate Professor in Cancer studies, Departmental Lead for Audit and Morbidity & Mortality, Chairman of the Head & Neck Cancer Multidisciplinary team and Regional Head & Neck oncology representative for the National Institute of Health Research, UK.
