About me
My name is pronounced 'Keava'. I am a warm, compassionate and down-to-earth Clinical Psychologist. I have worked in a wide variety of NHS mental health services since 2001. I qualified with a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology in 2008 after completing three years of postgraduate clinical and academic training with the NHS and Newcastle University. I am registered with the Health Care and Professions Council (HCPC number PYL18780).
Since qualifying I have worked in numerous NHS adult mental health services with clients presenting with a broad spectrum of mental health difficulties of varying complexity from mild/moderate to severe and enduring. This has included key foundational years in multidisciplinary Community Mental Health, specialist experience in Adult Eating Disorders, a leadership role in Adult Psychological Therapies and latterly a senior role as Consultant Clinical Psychologist.
I now offer independent therapy online and in-person from the Wellbeing Rooms in Bearsden and Stepps. The ethos of the Wellbeing Rooms is to provide access to high quality, fully trained and appropriately regulated therapists in a safe, confidential, healing and friendly environment.
My overarching focus in therapy is to help clients feel safe and comfortable. I aim to develop a good understanding of each client's experience. I start by gently getting to know each client and working to develop a shared understanding of the things that have led them to seek therapy. We might explore the impact of past experiences and present circumstances on their current wellbeing. We then work together to develop therapy goals; these may include understanding and processing past experiences; looking for things in the present that are affecting wellbeing; working out what they would like to change going forward. I am led by the needs and wishes of each client and always aim to tailor my approach to suit. I strive to be approachable, flexible and open to feedback.
Finding the right therapist is important, I therefore offer a free initial 15-minute telephone consultation to discuss your reasons for seeking therapy. This is an opportunity for you to ask any questions and for us to decide whether I am the right person to meet your needs.
Areas of interest
I have experience of working with most psychological difficulties including anxiety; OCD; intrusive and disturbing thoughts; depression; and adjustment to difficult life experiences. This list is not exhaustive.
I have specialist experience with eating disorders and extensive experience of childhood and relational traumas including bullying, neglect, and emotional, physical and sexual abuse.
I have research and clinical experience in neurodiversity, including NHS and independent experience of assessing adults for autism.
I have training in a range of evidence based psychological therapies including CBT; psychodynamic and systemic theory; Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT); Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Trauma Focused CBT, Narrative Exposure Therapy, and Eye Movement Desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR).
I take an integrative approach; I combine appropriate techniques to tailor therapy to the unique circumstances and preferences of each client.
