About me

I'm Dr Jessica Staniford, a clinical psychologist, with over 10 years' experience in various NHS services, supporting people experiencing distress. I am skilled in helping people who are struggling with painful emotions (such as anxiety, low mood, shame) as well as trauma and relational difficulties. I am passionate about offering a service that is highly respectful, compassionate, non-judgemental, and tailored to meet your individual needs. I therefore adapt my approach to meet you where you are at on your journey, whether this is the first time you have reached out for support, or you have had therapy before.

It can be daunting to ask for help, but I hope that my relaxed and warm approach will help to put you at ease, so that we can build a trusting therapeutic relationship and work together to make sense of what has happened to you in your life. This will help us to understand what you are currently struggling with, and how we can put things into place to overcome some of these challenges, and move you in the direction you are aiming for.

When we work together, we will use your expertise of your own life, and I will draw upon different psychological models to help us understand your life story. The approaches I draw on include cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), schema, compassion focused therapy (CFT), dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT), and I am currently training in EMDR (Eye Movement, Desensitisation and Reprocessing).
