About me
I am a Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon based in Cambridge, practising at Spire Cambridge Lea Hospital alongside my NHS role at Hinchingbrooke Hospital. I specialise in the diagnosis, investigation and treatment of bowel and colorectal conditions, providing patient-centred care using modern and evidence-based techniques.
With extensive training and clinical experience in both open and minimally invasive surgery, I offer a comprehensive service for patients with digestive and colorectal symptoms, ensuring accurate diagnosis and personalised treatment plans.
I completed my basic surgical training in Yorkshire and higher surgical training in the East of England where I worked in various hospitals including leading university teaching hospitals specialising in open/laparoscopic general and colorectal surgery.
I am an accredited Endoscopist in lower gastrointestinal endoscopy (colonoscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy, polypectomy). I am also a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) and member of association of ACPGBI (Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland).
I was awarded a Doctorate in Medicine from the University of Leicester for my research into the effects of Omega 3 fish oils in management of critically ill septic patients. I presented my results internationally and have several publications in peer reviewed journals.
Areas of interest
I offer investigation and treatment for change in bowel habits, rectal bleeding and bowel cancer screening.
I also treat conditions of the bottom such as anal fissure, anal fistula, haemorrhoids, pilonidal sinus, rectal prolapse, anal skin tags and abscesses.
I offer surgery for bowel cancer (colorectal surgery), surgery for inflammatory bowel disease (ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease), colorectal cancer screening, colonoscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy, polypectomy, proctoscopy and stoma surgery.
I also provide treatment of haemorrhoids (banding of haemorrhoids, transanal haemorrhoid dearterialisation (THD) and haemorrhoidectomy).
I also offer general surgery procedures for groin (inguinal hernias - open repair), abdominal wall hernia surgery (open repair), umbilical (belly button) hernia surgery, lipoma (lumps and bumps) excision and cyst excision.
