About me
Dr Efe Ejenavi is a Consultant Gastroenterologist at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust. He graduated from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria, in 2005 and completed foundation training in the North West England Deanery, core medical training in the West Midlands and specialist training (residency) in Gastroenterology in South Yorkshire and the West Midlands training program. Dr Ejenavi became a Consultant Gastroenterologist in 2018, initially working at University Hospitals of North Midlands. He was appointed as a substantive Consultant at University Hospitals Birmingham in 2021, working for several years at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital before moving to Heartlands Hospital, where he is currently based.
Dr Ejenavi specialises in the diagnosis and treatment of a wide variety of gastrointestinal disorders. His expertise encompasses a broad spectrum of conditions including upper gastrointestinal disorders such as dyspepsia (indigestion), dysphagia (difficulty swallowing), gastrointestinal cancers, gastrointestinal bleeding and functional gastrointestinal disorders. His areas of specialist interest are interventional endoscopy, inflammatory bowel disease and hepatobiliary medicine.
Dr Ejenavi is an experienced and highly skilled endoscopist. He performs both diagnostic endoscopy and advanced endoscopic procedures such as ERCP (endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography), interventional endoscopy for treatment of gastrointestinal strictures (blockages) as well as colonoscopy and polypectomy (removal of polyps).
Dr Ejenavi is actively involved in training Registrars and Endoscopy Fellows and was the Endoscopy Training Lead at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. During this time, he was also the lead for the management of gastrointestinal bleeding, ensuring that hospital trust practises were safe and high quality. He is currently the Gastroenterology and Endoscopy Clinical Governance Lead for Heartlands Hospital.
Dr Ejenavi is involved in research, contributing to advancements in Gastroenterology through publications in medical journals and presentations at national and international conferences. He is a member of the Royal College of Physicians of the United Kingdom and a member of the British Society of Gastroenterology. He is also a Fellow of the European Board of Gastroenterology and Hepatology.
Dr Ejenavi is dedicated to providing exceptional patient care, utilizing the latest advancements in medical technology. He is known for his patient-centred approach, taking the time to listen to patients' concerns and ensuring a thorough understanding of their health issues to create a personalised treatment plan.
