About me

I'm Psychotherapist employed by the NHS in Scotland. I have been practicing for over 10 years and have experience in treating a variety of conditions from low mood and anxiety as well as more complex difficulties such as OCD, Phobia, PTSD and Complex PTSD. My core training is in CBT but I would describe my practice as more integrative. I use a lot of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, ACT, which is less ridged than CBT - for example we cant always challenge away some of those negative thoughts or feelings, because they may have been with us for some time, or parts of them may be true. This is where ACT helps us to make space for difficulty, and helps us find ways to live with what is difficult. Compassion focused work is also a big part of my work as often the poor relationships we have with ourselves maintain the difficulties we have. I treat lots of people who believe they may be neuro - diverse or have a new or long standing diagnosis. I aim to help with various aspects of diversity from acceptance to skill building in time management or relationships. I am a mum of two and have lived a life before becoming a therapist, I obtained my 1st class honours degree in Counselling and Psychology in my late 20's and I spent a lot of years helping people with trauma in charitable organisations before I specialised in CBT and took employment with the NHS. I am also studying for a Masters in Psychology and I supervise and mentor students who are studying for their diplomas. Feed back from my patients and clients is often around the quality of our relationship, their ability to open up and feel safe as well as a feeling that they are leaving our sessions with their own resources and an internal therapist which they can call upon at any time.
