About me
I am a Consultant General and Hepatobiliary Surgeon at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. My main areas of expertise are abdominal pain, hernia and gallbladder surgery, as well as minimally invasive liver and pancreas surgery.
I graduated from the University of Aberdeen and completed all my training In Edinburgh and South East Scotland. I undertook a fellowship in Oslo, specialising in minimally invasive liver and pancreas surgery and returned to Edinburgh to take up my consultant post in 2020.
I am also an army consultant surgeon and actively involved in military trauma surgery. I have roles in the training and supervision of both civilian and military surgeons. I am the Quality Improvement lead for secondary healthcare throughout the military medical services.
During my training I undertook a doctoral (MD) thesis and have published widely in the subject of enhanced recovery after surgery. This remains an interest of mine and I lead the enhanced recovery programme for the hepatobiliary unit within the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. I am a reviewer for international surgical journals and I am an advisor for the development of the national gallstone disease pathway for Scotland.
My priority is safe and effective evidence based surgical care and delivering a high quality and friendly service to my patients.
