About me

Dr. David Baxter is a highly experienced Neurosurgeon currently affiliated with The London Deanery. With a strong background in professional training and coaching, Dr. Baxter has expertise in Emergency Medicine, Healthcare, Medical Research, Medical Education, and Data Analysis. He earned his MB BS degree in Medicine from Manchester University in 2004.

Dr. Baxter's professional journey includes serving as a Specialist Registrar in the North London Neurosurgical training programme, where he specialises in Neurosurgery, spinal oncology, and spinal cord injury. Additionally, he completed a Ph.D. at University College London, focusing on the neuropsychological, endocrine, and imaging effects of blast traumatic brain injury.

Throughout his career, Dr. Baxter has served as a military neurosurgeon, with deployments in Afghanistan, Germany, and Cyprus. He completed specialised fellowships in Cranio-Spinal Trauma, Complex Spine and Deformity, and Brachial Plexus and Peripheral Nerve Surgery.

In January 2020, Dr. Baxter was appointed as a Consultant at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital (RNOH), with an Honorary Consultant role at St George's Hospital Trust. At RNOH, he focuses on neurosurgery, the assessment and management of patients with spinal cancers, neuromodulation, and spinal cord injury. Dr. Baxter also runs a clinic at the Defence National Rehabilitation Centre (DNRC), Stanford Hall, specialising in the non-surgical management of back pain and sciatica, and enhanced recovery.

Dr. Baxter's ongoing research interests include optimising function and performance following spinal cord injury, clinician and patient priorities in primary tumours of the spine, and traumatic brain injury. He is also a Fellow of the Faculty of Sports and Exercise Medicine and serves as the Medical Officer for the Army Rugby League Team and the England Wheelchair Rugby League team.
