About me
I am a Counselling Psychologist with over two decades' experience of working at a senior level within specialist services.
At the heart of my practice is cultivating a warm, trusting therapeutic relationship to ensure clients feel heard, validated and respected, which I believe is fundamental to the process of change. We may identify relational or behavioural patterns, and I will share my reflections with the aim of you achieving a greater understanding of the difficulties you are experiencing. My practice includes collaborative goal-setting and working towards meaningful change at a pace that feels manageable for you.
We will work together to develop your understanding of yourself and your difficulties and will think together about what you may benefit from changing. We will work together to help you develop strategies that will support you to make the changes you would like to make.
My current Highly Specialist NHS role offers psychological support to people living with long term health conditions such as diabetes, respiratory conditions, gastro and cardiac conditions, and HIV.
Alongside this expertise in working with the psychological aspect of physical health conditions, I have also worked in mental health teams and have in-depth knowledge of working with clients experiencing anxiety disorders, panic disorder; obsessive-compulsive disorder; health anxiety; social anxiety; generalised anxiety disorder; presentation anxiety; trauma, stress and burnout; depression; low self-confidence; insomnia; grief and bereavement,
I draw upon Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) EMDR for trauma (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) and person-centred therapy. I use an integrative approach and will tailor our work together to you as an individual. This method will aid us to promote your individual strengths and personal growth within a supportive and nurturing environment.
My childhood was spent in Sheffield, where I gained my psychology undergraduate degree at Sheffield Hallam University. I then went onto complete my professional training as a Counselling Psychologist at the University of Wolverhampton. I am registered with the Health and Care Professions Council.
