About me
At the heart of my practice is providing a warm, compassionate space that supports clients to feel heard, validated and safe, which I believe is necessary for change to take place.
I have over two decades of experience working with people experiencing a range of emotional difficulties including anxiety, low mood, stress and burnout, low self-esteem, shame, and difficulties resulting from the impact of trauma.
I have a special interest in supporting people with health related emotional difficulties. My current Highly Specialist NHS role involves providing psychological support to people living with long term health conditions such as diabetes, respiratory conditions, gastro conditions, cardiac conditions, and HIV. The challenges may be anxiety or low mood as a result of the health condition, adjusting to a diagnosis, living a meaningful life alongside challenging physical symptoms, or difficulties following treatment related trauma.
My aim is to provide a compassionate space in which we can work together to make sense of and understand your challenges more. We may identify patterns, and I will share my reflections with the aim of you achieving a greater understanding of the difficulties you are experiencing. We will identify goals and will work collaboratively to make sense of your difficulties and find helpful ways forward.
I draw upon a range of evidence-based models and approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) EMDR for trauma (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing), and mindfulness. I use an integrative approach which means I will use the approaches in our work which I think will be most useful to you as an individual.
I understand it can feel like a big step deciding which therapist to work with and it is important that you find someone who feels like the right fit for you. With that in mind I offer a free 15 minute phone call in which we can talk about what it is you are looking for, I can explain more about how we might work together, and you can ask any questions you might have to help you make the decision that is right for you.
I was born and grew up in Sheffield which is where I did my undergraduate degree. I then moved to Wolverhampton to do my masters degree and professional training in Counselling Psychology. After qualifying I lived briefly in London before relocating to Bristol over 20 years ago which is where I am still based.
I am registered with the Health and Care Professions Council.
