About me
Professor Halcox is an Internationally recognised cardiologist, with a special interest in vascular biology and cardiovascular disease prevention.
As a general cardiologist Professor Halcox cares for patients with all types of cardiovascular disease, but has particular expertise in the investigation and treatment of patients with coronary artery disease, high blood pressure and high cholesterol as well as advanced cardiovascular risk assessment and prevention of heart attack and stroke.
He is a Consultant Cardiologist Swansea Bay University Health Board and holds the Chair of Cardiology in Swansea University Medical School. He previously held posts as Professor of Cardiology in Cardiff University and British Heart Foundation Senior Lecturer at University College London. He has worked as Consultant Cardiologist at the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff and the Heart Hospital, University College Hospital and Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children in London.
A graduate of the University of Cambridge, he trained in cardiology at The London Chest, St. Bartholomew’s and University College London Hospitals also spending 3 years as a Visiting Scientist in the US National Heart Lung and Blood Institute.
He is a world leader in the field of preventive cardiovascular medicine and has been involved in the development of European as well as local guidelines for the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disease. He is an active member of several national and international specialist associations, review boards and industry clinical advisory boards. He has published extensively and lectures regularly on topics related to vascular biology, cardiovascular risk assessment and prevention of cardiovascular disease at local, national and international meetings.
He previously competed at a national level in swimming and waterpolo, setting University records and winning British Students’ championships, Cambridge Blues and London University Purples along the way. He now enjoys open water swimming and triathlon when he can find the time.
