About me

Mr Rosario Mela graduated from medical school in 1992 at the University of Florence, Italy and completed his speciality training in Odonto-Stomatology three years later. He has over 25 years' experience working in oral surgery.

Mr Mela retired with the rank of colonel from Italian Air Force Medical Service in 2019 and joined the team at Practice Plus Group Hospital, Southampton a year later.

He is a graduate of the Nunziatella Military School, Class 193�, with a Diploma of High School level Scientific Liceum, and a cadet of the Italian Defence Medical Academy (A.S.M.I.), Class 17�. From 1993 to 1994, he served as the Director of the Health Service at the Italian Air Force Military Airport in Gioia del Colle, subsequently becoming the Air Force Combat Wing MED Officer at the same location until 1996.

Between 1996 and 2001, he was a consultant for dental specialty within the Joint Military Medical Legal Board. He then directed the Health Service at the Centre for Interforce Intelligence in Rome from 2001 to 2006.

From 2007 to 2009, he taught dentistry at the Institute for Improvement and Training in Aeronautics and Space Medicine of the Italian Air Force. He led the Department of Dentistry at the Aerospace Medical Institute of Rome from 2007 to 2015, overseeing various oral surgeries. From 2015 to 2019, he was the Director of the Health Service of the Italian National Military Representative at SHAPE NATO.

Additionally, between 1996 and 2015, he ran his own Dental Clinic, specializing in oral surgery and implantology.

He has a special interest in Advanced Dental Implantology and all Oral Surgery.
