About me

Suzanne Wood-Simmons (SWSCounsellor)

MBACP | NCPS Accredited | Neurodivergent Therapist (AuDHD)
Specialising in Neurodivergence, Trauma, Anxiety, Burnout & Identity

Approach
I am a neurodivergent (AuDHD) person-centred counsellor who works in a warm, relational, and down-to-earth way. My practice is grounded in compassion, authenticity and the belief that each person's story matters. I provide a safe, accepting space for clients to explore their experiences without judgement, pressure, or expectation.

My style is collaborative and gentle, allowing clients to move at a pace that feels right for them. I integrate creative tools, trauma-informed principles and neuro-affirming strategies where helpful. Sessions are led by the client's needs, not a rigid agenda.

Who I Work With
I support adults and young people (age range can be adapted) experiencing:

Autism, ADHD or suspected neurodivergence

Anxiety, overwhelm, burnout and masking fatigue

Trauma including religious/spiritual abuse, emotional neglect, bullying and relational trauma

Low self-esteem, identity difficulties and chronic self-doubt

Grief, family estrangement and complex family dynamics

Work-related stress, discrimination, and workplace trauma

I have specialist experience supporting neurodivergent clients who feel misunderstood, invalidated, or exhausted from trying to fit in to environments not built for them.

How I Work

Person-centred, relational therapy

Trauma-informed and neuro-affirming

Pace led entirely by the client

Safe exploration of masking, shame, identity and emotional overwhelm

Flexible communication style, including clear structure for clients who benefit from predictability

What Clients Can Expect
Clients describe me as calm, grounding, approachable and easy to talk to. My aim is to help people feel seen, heard and less alone, while supporting them to strengthen self-understanding, emotional regulation, and compassionate self-acceptance.

Professional Background
I hold qualifications in counselling, sociology, and continued professional development in neurodivergence, trauma, and creative therapeutic approaches. I am a registered member of the BACP and an Accredited Member of the NCPS.

I bring lived experience of neurodivergence, as well as years of supporting vulnerable adults, families, and individuals navigating discrimination, burnout, and systemic challenges.

Availability
Online and telephone counselling available. Daytime and evening appointments offered.

Therapeutic Values
Authenticity Creativity Safety Autonomy Inclusion
Your story matters and so do you.

Areas of interest

My areas of interest include neurodivergence (Autism, ADHD and AuDHD), trauma, burnout, identity and self-worth, religious or spiritual abuse, workplace trauma, anxiety, relational wounds, family estrangement, and the emotional impact of late diagnosis. I have a particular passion for supporting neurodivergent adults who feel misunderstood, "too much," or lost from years of masking and adapting to others. I also enjoy working with parents of neurodivergent children, and those navigating life transitions, overwhelm, and the desire to reconnect with their authentic selves.
