About me
Hi there, I'm Melissa, but I'm sometimes referred to as a The Abandonment Therapist online. Welcome to my little space on the internet, it's lovely to meet you.
Talking about abandonment related issues can sometimes feel quite heavy, as there's often a lot of shame and judgment attached to. It can also often feel quite complicated to explain because it often comes with additional layers. I know it's not just about your abandonment, but also how it's impacted your entire family, with each family member dealing with it in a different way. You may have a sibling struggling with addiction in order to hide their pain, whereas here you are, choosing therapy to face it.
Prior to exclusively working with those who relate to feeling abandoned, I worked for 5 years at Southampton General Hospital as a Bereavement Counsellor. I've worked with hundreds of bereaved individuals and families in varying capacities which has always allowed me to say "I've seen and heard, everything". So I hope that helps you know, whatever it is, you have or are going through, it will never be too much for me. Everybody grieves in different ways and sometimes, just knowing that, is enough to see you through. However, sometimes, grief can feel like you're on a rollercoaster and you're not really sure how to get off.
Believe it or not, abandonment and grief, go hand in hand, as they both involve someone or something not being there anymore. I can help you talk about your grief in a way that doesn't feel shameful and help you discover a deeper understanding and find your own voice.
Regardless of whether you are estranged from a parent or struggling with grief, your story is what really matters.
So, if what I provide feels what you are looking for, then bring yourself, as you are, even if you don't know what that looks like. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
