About me
Mr Sanjith Gnanappiragasam is a highly experienced Consultant Urologist at King's College Hospital NHS Trust, specialising in the diagnosis and treatment of kidney stones, prostate conditions, and a wide range of urinary problems. Known for his calm, reassuring manner and commitment to patient-centred care, he ensures every patient feels listened to and supported throughout their treatment journey. After completing advanced fellowship training in kidney stone management at Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital, he joined King's College Hospital in 2021 and now leads the department as Stone Lead.
Mr Gnanappiragasam offers cutting-edge, minimally invasive treatments for kidney stones, including Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy (ESWL), a non-invasive method of breaking stones, and Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy (PCNL), a keyhole procedure for larger or more complex stones. He helped establish one of the UK's few centres performing day-surgery Mini PCNL, enabling faster recovery and reduced hospital stays. He was the first surgeon in the UK to perform robotic stone surgery using Roboflex and has set up a dedicated metabolic stone clinic for patients at high risk of recurrent stones, as well as a one-stop prostate enlargement clinic for rapid assessment and treatment.
Alongside his stone practice, Mr Gnanappiragasam provides comprehensive care for conditions affecting the kidneys, bladder, prostate, and male genitalia. He treats urinary infections, blood in the urine, erectile dysfunction, problems related to an enlarged prostate, male and female incontinence, and both benign and cancer-related urological conditions. His approach combines clinical excellence with compassion, focusing on personalised care and the latest techniques to achieve the best possible outcomes.
In addition to his clinical work, Mr Gnanappiragasam is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at King's College London, where he teaches medical students and trains junior doctors. He contributes to ongoing research at King's College Hospital and holds an associate role with the General Medical Council, reflecting his commitment to education, innovation, and the highest standards of medical practice. Passionate about improving patient care, he ensures every individual receives expert treatment in a supportive and professional environment.
