About me

Hello, my name is Adriana. I am a practicing psychologist and therapist with 30 years experience. When someone is looking for a psychological service, there is usually quite a lot that is going on in their life before they pick up the phone, and when they do, in my experience, it is often more than one thing that is causing distress. So if this is you, we would need to decide what you would want to work with first and look at how working with one specific area first, can positively impact on other areas as well. I call it trying to see the wood from the trees. This doesn't mean we won't look at the other issues, but this is a way of giving you some structure, which will reduce any anxiety and confusion. It is a road map, one that we create together. People often come and say: "I bet you've heard this before". And yes, maybe I have dealt with similar situations, however, everybody's road map is different because you are bringing your situations - and your individual responses to those situations - that is what makes the road map unique.

The aim of coming into this very private meeting is to give you the mental and physical space to begin to unravel and learn ways in which to deal with your situation better. Sometimes it could involve talking and then agreeing to do something in between our meetings. The aim of this is to find out what works for you in your given situation and help you to practice outside of our scheduled appointments. What often surprises many people is that we break things right down, to reduce the feeling of being overwhelmed and nothing is too small - that is very important, as what we are trying to do together is to help you to deal with whatever it is and that you know you want to change. Once you realise that a small change has a ripple affect in other areas of your life, it gives you confidence to continue to the next step, whatever that step needs to be.

My method of working is what I like to hear what has brought you to see me and for you to tell me as much as you want to about who you are. Putting those two things together helps to sketch a picture for me, one that I need to confirm is accurate with you. Once we have done that, we can decide what is the best style of therapy to use for you and the thing you wish to resolve. I include regular reviews to help you to identify your progress or any connected things we need to focus on, bearing in mind that our consultations will have a beginning phase, a middle and and end phase.

Most of my career I have worked with people on a face to face basis, but with the development of the internet and security around the internet, I also now offer remote appointments. So whilst I can see you in South Manchester, Cheshire and Central London, I am also happy to work online. This in itself sometimes takes away the stress of trying to find time to travel to a consultation.
