About me
Mr Mark Norton is an Orthopaedic Consultant with a particular interest and experience in hip preservation, replacement and revision surgery, including the management of younger adults with FAI (femoro-acetabular impingement) or Hip Impingement Syndrome using a spectrum of non-operative measures, minimal access surgery and open surgery. He also performs hip resurfacing and total hip replacement for hips that are not able to be preserved. He and his team have presented the largest series of results at 10 years of this form of surgery in the UK.
Mr Norton achieved his primary medical qualification from the University of Cape Town Medical School in 1989, spending the next 13 years training to become an Orthopaedic Surgeon. Outside his clinical work, he regularly lectures on hip preserving surgery at National and International meetings. He advocates the blood supply preserving trochanteric flip surgical approach for hip resurfacing aimed at maximising the possible life span of hip resurfacing in younger high demand patients although he also uses the standard posterior approach method of hip resurfacing for appropriate cases. He has been profiled in Cornwall Today August 2008 magazine regarding hip resurfacing.
Mr. Norton is a highly experienced hip surgeon with over 20 years experience with young adult hip surgery and hip resurfacing.
He treats surgery as a blend of science and art, aiming to embrace the very best of innovative technology with the skills of accurate and elegant surgery. This is exemplified by his desire to minimise surgical damage to the muscles, tendons and ligaments to allow as full a recovery and return to high functioning activities as possible.
He was approached to take part in the H1 study by Prof Cobb (H1 design surgeon) and has performed 30 H1 resurfacing procedures since 2019 as part of the Embody study.
He regularly uses the MatOrtho Adept MoM resurfacing implant for hip resurfacing procedures and is very practiced in the techniques required to get the best from hip resurfacing implants.
With over 2 decades of experience in hip resurfacing, he brings exceptional expertise to every procedure. Both the H1 and ReCerf ceramic implants will be available for his use after product licensing, providing flexibility to accommodate individual patient preferences.
