About me
Mr James Youngman is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in the lower limb. Having graduated from Middlesex and University College School of Medicine, he has worked at several major trauma centres including Whipps Cross and the Royal London before taking up a consultancy post at UCLH. Working both with adult and paediatric trauma, he has a broad experience of the non-operative and surgical treatments of the full range of trauma cases.
He has a major interest in the treatment of knee problems including complex knee trauma, sports knee injuries and degenerative conditions. This includes advanced arthroscopic techniques with complex ligament reconstruction using either hamstring, patella tendon or allograft techniques.
Mr Youngman’s work with deformity correction includes a special interest in the correction of long bone deformity either by osteotomy and acute correction using the Ilizarov or Taylor spatial frames. He performs and teaches knee replacement techniques including complex knees with severe deformity and performs degenerative hip reconstruction and revision hip arthroplasty. His research work has included examining knee ligament balance in knee replacement surgery, especially the role of the posterior cruciate ligament.
