Professor Lewis has been an NHS Consultant since 2003 & was appointed a Full-Professor at Swansea University in 2017.

Professor Lewis has published more than 190 journal articles, over 300 abstracts and 4 textbooks. He has been the leading or co-applicant on grants worth over �27M. He advises the British and European Respiratory Society Conferences, the Welcome Foundation, MRC and Tenovus. He has advised Welsh and Westminster Governments on Smoking and Vaping and more recently their COVID enquiries.
