About me
Can you tell me about your background?
I have worked in mental health services for over ten years, and worked with individuals across the lifespan, as well as people with intellectual disabilities and those who are neurodivergent. A lot of my work has focused on working with children, young adults and their families.
I currently work in a specialist NHS service for individuals being discharged from forensic mental health services back into the community. I have a lot of experience working in forensic services i.e. prisons and forensic mental health hospitals, working with mental health difficulties and behaviours which are challenging. I also have a lot of experience working with individuals in crisis, struggling with emotional regulation and coping strategies which are no longer helpful for them.
What will it be like when I meet you?
My approach is collaborative, compassionate and person-centred. We will spend some time getting to know each other, and focus on building a therapeutic relationship. Together we will create a safe space, where you feel able to talk about your current experiences.
I will ask about different aspects of your life and together we will try to make sense of what is going on for you, and why it has happened. We will consider different ways of working and different interventions to suit your needs.
What types of therapy do you do? And what kinds of difficult do you help people with?
I have worked using a range of different therapy models, and often work in integrative ways to suit the needs of the person. I utilise cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) and narrative approaches for anxiety, panic, depression and trauma. I like to use acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) for individuals who feel stuck, are struggling to accept their current situation and want to change.
I am a trained dialectical behavioural therapy (DBT) therapist, which is useful for emotional regulation strategies and self-harming behaviours. I also like working in more explorative ways using systemic approaches and considering problems between people rather than locating the problem within just one individual.
What do I enjoy outside of psychology?
When I'm not at work I enjoy spending time with my friends and family, travelling to new countries and enjoying the local culture and cuisine. I love to keep active and especially enjoy hiking, yoga and high intensity gym classes.
