About me
About me
I am a BACP-accredited counsellor and psychotherapist based in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire. I offer a safe, confidential space where we can work together to explore what has brought you to counselling.
My approach is integrative, with a foundation in person-centred practice, meaning the work is led by you and your needs. I also draw on psychodynamic theory and have a particular interest in attachment, as I believe our early relationships shape how we see the world and relate to others. These patterns, or scripts, often play out in current relationships. Alongside this, I have experience in trauma work and use Internal Family Systems (IFS) and parts work where helpful.
I believe that trauma is often experienced in relationship with others, and healing can take place in relationship too. The therapeutic relationship can provide a secure base from which to explore difficult experiences at your own pace. Building trust between us is central to this process.
My experience is varied, having worked with a diverse range of clients across different settings, including education, bereavement services, hospices, and general counselling. I have supported adults and young people facing feelings such as depression, loneliness, grief, loss, trauma, isolation, anxiety, hopelessness, suicidality, and anger.
I see the relationship between client and therapist as crucial. Attending one session does not mean committing to long-term therapy it's an opportunity to discuss your concerns, explore what you are looking for, and decide together whether I can provide the support you need.
Training, qualifications & experience
Before retraining as a counsellor and psychotherapist, I worked for many years in local government, with a background in law enforcement. During this time, I held both officer and managerial roles, and was responsible for promoting colleague wellbeing across the organisation. This gave me valuable experience supporting people with work-related stress.
Since qualifying, I have gained experience in both short- and long-term counselling. I have worked in universities and colleges, for bereavement charities, hospices, general counselling services, Employee Assistance Programmes, and in private practice.
For many years I have also volunteered on a helpline and supported face-to-face groups for individuals and families bereaved by suicide.
More recently, I have taken on a teaching role, supporting trainee counsellors as they work towards their practice qualification.
