Overview:
Since 2021 Mr. Mahmoud Awad has been working as a consultant for the NHS, based at Singleton Hospital. He has a focus on treating medical retinal diseases and performing cataract surgery.
Background:
Mr. Mahmoud Awad qualified in Egypt (MBBCh) in 2006, and from 2008 to 2017 he pursued training and accreditation as an ophthalmology specialist. Additionally, in 2010 and 2016, he earned a Master's degree and a Medical Doctorate in Ophthalmology. He became a lecturer of ophthalmology in the faculty of medicine of ASU in Cairo and then obtained a fellowship in ophthalmology from the Royal College of Physicians in Glasgow before beginning his ophthalmology career in the UK in 2018. Mr. Mahmoud Awad also obtained a second fellowship status from the Royal College of Ophthalmologists before finally starting his consultant post in Singleton Hospital in Swansea in 2021. There he oversees the medical retina service (diabetic retina, vein occlusions, and age-related macular degeneration) and performs cataract surgery lists and different laser procedures. Mr. Mahmoud Awad is involved in many research projects and has also presented his pilot treatment pathways and audit projects in international conferences and meetings. He is also currently an examiner for the Royal College of Ophthalmologists.
