About me
Mr Hugo Henderson is a Consultant Ophthalmologist and Oculoplastic Surgeon specialising in surgery of the eyelids, tear drainage system and orbit. His practice covers functional, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery, with particular expertise in complex eyelid reconstruction, orbital disease and the management of eyelid tumours.
Mr Henderson has led the Oculoplastic Service at the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust since 2004 and served as Clinical Director of Ophthalmology at the Royal Free Hospital from 2007 to 2011. His work there includes complex eyelid, lacrimal and orbital conditions, as well as thyroid eye disease and reconstruction following the removal of skin cancers around the eye. He works closely with colleagues through the Thyroid Eye Disease Clinic, Skin Tumour Multidisciplinary Team and Mohs Service.
He studied medicine at the University of Oxford and completed his medical training at Guy's and St Thomas' Hospitals. He then trained in ophthalmology at Moorfields Eye Hospital, where he also completed advanced fellowship training in oculoplastic surgery, followed by further fellowship training in craniofacial surgery at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital.
Alongside his clinical practice, Mr Henderson lectures on the UCL Master's course in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He is also a founding council member of the Royal Society of Medicine's Section of Aesthetic Medicine and Surgery.
In private practice, Mr Henderson treats both medical and cosmetic concerns affecting the eyelids and surrounding structures. His work includes upper and lower blepharoplasty, ptosis correction, brow lift surgery, eyelid malposition, watery eyes and blocked tear ducts, thyroid eye disease, orbital surgery, eyelid lesions and tumours, Mohs reconstruction and complex revisional eyelid surgery.
His background in ophthalmology, oculoplastic surgery and craniofacial surgery is particularly valuable in cases where protecting the eye and restoring eyelid function must be considered alongside the appearance of the eyelids and surrounding face.
