Dr Johnston has held a Consultant Dermatologist post at the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust since 2001
He was Head of Service for Dermatology from 2008-2013
Dr Johnston trained in Leicester where his research into the role of vitamin D in psoriasis led to an award from the Royal Society of Medicine. He became an Honorary Consultant at St Thomas's Hospital, London before being appointed as a Consultant in Leicester in 2001
Research interests
Dr Johnston has published over 100 papers in medical journals, has contributed to five major dermatology textbooks and regularly appears on television and the local and national press advising on eczema, dermatitis and skin cancer.
Dr Johnston has a special interest in eczema and dermatitis including cosmetic and occupational dermatitis: a role which led to him being recognised as clinical expert for both NICE and the British Occupational Health Research Foundation.
He is currently President of he British Society for Cutaneous Allergy and a Fellow of the Royal Society for Public Health

Doctor Johnston gives lectures regularly to primary care teams in Leicestershire and Rutland
He also lectures for national courses run by the Royal Society for Public Health and the British Society for Cutaneous Allergy
