About me
Welcome to Park Therapy
I am a senior and fully accredited Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist with over 35 years' working, supervising and training in a variety of psychological settings: NHS, private practice, further education and digital healthcare. I have worked with adolescents, young adults and older adults both individually and also in groups with families. I have worked in teaching, management, government advisory roles and CBT research, publishing both my own research and government data.
I initially qualified as a nurse in 1987 (general and mental health) and then obtained a Degree in 1994 in Psychology (BA Hons) and my Masters in CBT in 2010.
I recently left University of Glasgow when I was employed for 15 years as a Senior Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist lecturer/clinical supervisor and counsellor in the Student Counselling Department. I worked with neurodiverse young adults and students with mental health issues. Prior to this I worked as a senior therapist delivering CBT for a national treatment resistant depression trial. I also managed the Priory Eating Disorder Services for 15 years. I have held NHS nursing posts in hospital settings and in social care. I also ran my own small private practice for 16 years up until 2022.
Please note that at the moment I am only available to see people online on Zoom or Skype for example).
I am fully accredited with the British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapists and adhere to their guidelines to enable me to practice (see BABCP.com). I receive fortnightly clinical supervision. I take my professional development seriously and regularly attend clinical workshops and training/conferences to keep up to date with current research.
In the past I have published research and worked with the Scottish Government developing guidelines and pathways for mental health diagnoses. I have also delivered research in national conferences. I am a trained supervisor and have lectured /supervised/marked on the Dundee and Edinburgh CBT training course (alongside working for NHS Glasgow as a CBT teacher/trainer).
I work with adults and older adults with mental health presentations, using both CBT and more explorative counselling. I am happy to work with a wide range of client experiences, including - but not limited to - anxiety disorders, depression, neurodivergent presentations, bereavement, identity issues, relationship issues, low self-esteem, adjustments to external factors, menopause, eating, chronic illness and pain, neurodivergency, personality disorders and life transitions.
I am a highly skilled and trained therapist, whose aim is to ensure that my clients always get the highest level of therapy and benefit from the most advanced therapeutic methods and techniques in a safe and confidential space. My approach to my work is nonj udgemental, compassionate, collaborative and supportive. I am trained in many therapeutic approaches and can adapt my approaches to the individual needs of clients. I have a vast experience in working with people with mood related difficulties-anxiety, anger, shame, self esteem, self confidence issues, trauma, eating difficulties and relationship problems.
Therapy is a space for you to reflect and think about yourself and your life and the problems you are experiencing. A time to reflect and a time that is just for you to explore your issues. Together we can work collaboratively to identify what is troubling you and keeping you stuck and identify ways to overcome these.
