About me
If you work with me, I hope you will find that I listen carefully to you and do my best to understand what is troubling you. I try to create a space where you feel safe and comfortable expressing your thoughts and feelings, at your pace, without judgement. This then helps us to explore and make sense of things together.
New insights may develop in sessions. This could be figuring out how past experiences are still having an impact or perhaps identifying any recurring thoughts, beliefs or behaviours that may no longer be helpful. Your relationship with yourself is also a key part of every picture.
How we might work together will be guided by you and what you feel you need.
Some people want a space to explore things quite openly and see what evolves. Other people may want to consider their options around a specific problem - and others prefer a mixture of both. I believe that each person is the expert in their own situation and, given appropriate support and time, we can all better navigate lifes hurdles and experience positive change.
I have worked in mental health for over ten years across a variety of voluntary, community and private settings. I qualified as a counsellor in 2019 and hold a Masters degree with distinction in Counselling and Therapeutic Communication from Ulster University. I am a member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy of which I hold enhanced, accredited status (MBACP - Accred). I regularly engage in continuing professional development, stay up-to-date with the latest research and I attend monthly sessions with a clinical supervisor to ensure safe and high-quality practice.
I offer sessions via telephone and online via MS Teams, Zoom or WhatsApp.
If you feel that counselling together might help, I offer an initial free 15 min consultation to discuss what you hope counselling might help with, check if I would be an appropriate therapist for you, and answer any questions that you may have about the process.
After that, if you then decide you would like to proceed, full sessions are 50 minutes duration.
Areas of interest
People often turn to counselling at times of transition or uncertainty in life - this could be stemming from a loss, death, leaving home, moving homes, employment difficulties, fertility issues, parenting challenges, empty nest, upcoming retirement, illness of self or loved ones, relationship endings or problems - or any kind of dilemma around what life direction to take. It may often be a combination of a few things at once that begin to feel overwhelming.
