About me
Mr Hafez Alawad, MD, EBCOG is a Gynaecological Oncology Surgeon at Northampton General Hospital. He specialises in advanced laparoscopic surgery (Keyhole surgery) and complex open surgery.
Hafez completed his medical degree at Damascus University in Syria in 2002-2003. He completed a one-year rotation in general surgery before he moved to the Czech Republic where he completed his speciality training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in one of the biggest hospitals in the Czech Republic and became a fellow of the European Board & College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
He started subspecialty training in Gynaecological Oncology at the University Hospital Brno, then he moved to France to develop his ultrasound and surgical skills. Since 2015 he has been settled in the United Kingdom where he undertakes further advanced training fellowship programs in Gynaecological Oncology at Royal Marden and Exeter & Royal Devon Hospital.
He has also completed his BSCCP training and became certified by the British Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology in managing abnormal cervical smears and early detection of precancerous changes and treatment.
Mr Alawad has over 20 years of experience. He has excellent experience in performing abdominal and transvaginal ultrasounds given his training in European countries. In addition, he has a certificate from IOTA International Ovarian Tumour Analysis.
Mr Alawad was appointed Consultant Gynaecological Oncology Surgeon at Northampton General Hospital in 2020. Since then, he has worked closely with his team to develop an Oncology and Endometriosis centre at Northampton General Hospital. In addition to this, Mr Alawad has recently established the robotic Gynaecology Centre, and he completed his training program with the robotic da Vinci System.
Mr Alawad is part of the research team at Northampton General Hospital, where he is researching to help diagnose ovarian cancer earlier and identify a group of patients needing further investigation and unnecessary surgery. He also teaches medical students from Leicester and Oxford Hospital, along with senior doctors at Northampton General Hospital - and is involved in teaching and training fellows and consultants for advanced laparoscopic and open surgery.
