Dr Michael FitzPatrick is a consultant specialist gastroenterologist and immunology researcher working at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, and The Manor Hospital (Nuffield Health), Oxford. He provides high quality, compassionate, and personalised gastroenterology care for patients with a range of gastrointestinal conditions.
Dr Michael FitzPatrick works clinically across all areas of general gastroenterology, including heartburn, acid reflux, swallowing problems, abdominal pain, coeliac disease, bloating, diarrhoea, constipation, irritable bowel syndrome, anaemia, and rectal bleeding. He is an accredited endoscopist providing safe and effective care in gastroscopy (OGD) and colonoscopy.
Dr Michael FitzPatrick has a specialist interest in coeliac disease, nutrition, and irritable bowel syndrome. He leads the Oxford coeliac service at the John Radcliffe Hospital, and is a consultant within the complex nutrition team in Oxford.
Dr FitzPatrick has studied at the University of Cambridge, Barts and the London Medical School, and the University of Oxford. He has worked at the John Radcliffe Hospital since 2015. He completed his DPhil (PhD) research into immunology of coeliac disease, intestinal transplantation, and T cell biology in 2020.
Dr FitzPatrick is a scientific researcher at the Translational Gastroenterology Unit, University of Oxford. His lab focuses on disease mechanisms in coeliac disease and other immune-mediated gastroenterology conditions. He is a PhD supervisor, teaches undergraduates at the University of Oxford, is the author of peer-reviewed publications in high-impact journals, and has spoken internationally about his research.
