Dr Michael FitzPatrick is a consultant gastroenterologist and immunology researcher working at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, UK, and The Manor Hospital (Nuffield Health), Oxford. He provides high quality, compassionate, and personalised gastroenterology care for patients with a range of gastrointestinal symptoms and conditions. Dr FitzPatrick provides care to adult patients, as well as children and adolescents aged 16 to 18 years old.
Dr Michael FitzPatrick works clinically across all areas of general gastroenterology, including heartburn, acid reflux, swallowing problems, abdominal pain, coeliac disease, bloating, food intolerance, diarrhoea, constipation, irritable bowel syndrome, anaemia, iron deficiency, and rectal bleeding. He is an accredited and experienced endoscopist providing safe and effective care in endoscopy, gastroscopy (OGD), and colonoscopy.
Dr Michael FitzPatrick has a specialist interest in coeliac disease, nutrition, food intolerance, and irritable bowel syndrome. He leads the Oxford coeliac service at the John Radcliffe Hospital, and is a consultant within the complex nutrition team in Oxford.
Dr FitzPatrick has studied at the University of Cambridge, Barts and the London Medical School, and the University of Oxford. He has worked at the John Radcliffe Hospital since 2015. He completed his DPhil (PhD) research into immunology of coeliac disease, intestinal transplantation and T cell biology in 2020.
Dr FitzPatrick is a scientific researcher at the Translational Gastroenterology and Liver Unit, University of Oxford. His research lab focuses on disease mechanisms in coeliac disease and other immune-mediated gastroenterology conditions. He is a PhD supervisor, teaches undergraduates at the University of Oxford, is the author of multiple peer-reviewed publications in high-impact journals, and has spoken internationally about his research.
Dr FitzPatrick provides care to patients in and around Oxford and Oxfordshire, including patients in surrounding areas such as Swindon, Reading, Banbury, Brackley, Milton Keynes, Aylesbury, High Wycombe, and further afield.
