About me
Mr Ali Abdulkarim is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with over 25 years of clinical experience, specialising in hip and knee joint replacement, foot and ankle surgery, sports injuries and soft tissue knee surgery (including ACL reconstruction and meniscal repair), and trauma and lower limb reconstruction. He holds dual fellowships in orthopaedic surgery and has an average patient satisfaction rating of 5 out of 5 across more than 100 independently verified reviews. He sees patients from Worthing, Pulborough, Horsham, Brighton, Chichester and further afield, and offers face-to-face, video and telephone consultations.
Mr Abdulkarim earned a Master of Surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons in 2010 and was admitted to the prestigious Irish national training programme for trauma and orthopaedic surgery, an intensive eight-year specialist programme spanning several renowned institutions and centres of excellence. On completion, he was awarded a Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, a certificate of completion of specialist orthopaedic training, and a Fellowship of the European Board of Orthopaedics and Traumatology. He also received two prestigious travelling fellowships: the IITOS/RCSI Travelling Fellowship in Surgery, and the Irish Orthopaedic Association Travelling Fellowship Award.
His post-CCT subspecialty training included a further two years at Cambridge University Hospital (Addenbrooke's) and Southmead Hospital in Bristol, focused on advanced hip and knee surgery.
Education and quality improvement
Mr Abdulkarim is committed to medical education and quality improvement, serving as a visiting lecturer and academic supervisor for the next generation of orthopaedic surgeons. He is a member of the Faculty of Sport & Exercise Medicine in both the UK and Ireland. His approach to patient care is highly personalised: every treatment plan is tailored to the individual patient's needs, goals and lifestyle, and built around informed, shared decision-making.
Research and recognition
An active contributor to orthopaedic research, Mr Abdulkarim has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications in leading journals and presented at over 100 international conferences. His achievements include the prestigious Cappagh Medal in orthopaedic surgery, and he represented the Irish Orthopaedic Institute at the British Orthopaedic Association's 'Best of the Best' session for two consecutive years.
Leadership
Alongside his private practice, Mr Abdulkarim holds a senior clinical leadership position at St Richard's Hospital, where he helps shape orthopaedic services and improve the patient journey across the region. This role keeps his private practice closely aligned with best-in-class clinical governance and the latest innovations in orthopaedic care.
What to expect at your first appointment

Philosophy of care
Mr Abdulkarim is committed to patient-centred care, tailored to each patient's individual circumstances and goals. He believes in empowering patients through clear information and active participation in their treatment decisions, so they can make confident, informed choices about their care.
